Notes
Raymond was one of nine children born to Jacques Alexis (Jimmy) Goyetche and Maria Boudreau of Petit de Grat, N.S. At age 14, Raymond ran away from home and tried to join those fighting in World War II. Legend has it that his mother caught up with him in Halifax and dragged him by the ear all the way back to Petit de Grat. Two years later, although still too young, Raymond was off again. This time he made it to Montreal where he found a recruiting office, lied about his age so that he could join the Army, and saw duty overseas in Italy. After the war, Raymond settled in Montreal where he met and married Ada Jones. They tried for a big family but only one son, Darryl, survived. Ada suffered six miscarriages over the years. Raymond worked for Molson Breweries for a time, and then joined the White Rose Oil Refinery which later became the Shell Oil Refinery. Raymond passed away in 1974 at the age of 48, from complications arising from a battle with arteriosclerosis.
