Notes

Came to Cape Breton sometime before 1793. According to Sister Eliza Angelique Goyetche, of the Filles de Jesus, her great grandfather, Jean Goyetche, came from Bayonne, France. She indicated it was believed he was at St. Pierre & Miquelon for a time before coming to Cape Breton. He may also have sojourned near Louisbourg (or Sydney) before coming to Arichat. From an interview with Sister Goyetche, July 22, 1971. Petition of "John Goodish" in 1808 states that he had resided at Arichat for fifteen years and had seven children. Petition of "John Goyache" in 1814 states that he was born at Bayonne fifty years earlier, that he had nine children, and that he had resided in Cape Breton for twenty-two years. PANS, Calendar of Cape Breton Land Papers 1787 - 1843. Witnesses at Jean's burial: Jean Goyetche and Joseph Coste. Witnesses at Marguerite's burial: Jean Goyetche and Stanislas Goyetche.
